The Forum, Stevenage

Initial Survey
Following survey works to the access ramp into the Forum Shopping Centre’s service yard in Stevenage, Structural Renovations were employed to carry out a full refurbishment to extend the life and serviceability of the ramp for future users.
Early Stages
Working in conjunction with a civils contractor, DJ Civils acting as Principal Contractor, the works were carried out in two phases utilising traffic management to maintain access to and from the service yard. Fast curing materials were paramount to the project to allow the ramp to be returned to use soon after application.
Sikafloor Pronto System
A specification from Sika Limited was produced for the waterproofing of the ramp deck, which would provide the Client with a 10-year guarantee upon completion of the works. The extensive waterproofing works was based on the Sikafloor Pronto RB-58 system. The system is a slip resistant, fast curing, highly crack bridging, waterproofing, coloured floor covering based on reactive acrylic resins which is suitable for the cars and lorries using the ramp.
The Works
Initial concrete repairs to the deck were carried out using Sika MonoTop 630 Rapid. The Sikafloor system comprised a priming coat of Sikafloor 10 Pronto N followed by an embedment coat of Sikafloor 32 Pronto incorporating Sika Reemat Premium as a reinforcement layer. Two further coats of Sikafloor 32 Pronto were applied and broadcast with kiln dried quartz sand to act as a waterproof wearing layer. Two coats of Sikafloor 18 Pronto were then applied as the finish colour. Finally, the line markings were reinstalled using a chlorinated rubber coating.
The sides of the ramps required traditional concrete repairs and resin injection, and an anti-carbonation coating was applied to the ramp soffit.
The works were completed ahead of programme and to the satisfaction of both the Client and Principal Contractor.
